Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) Refresher




This two-day course aims to refresh your understanding of your key responsibilities and accountability for site safety, health, welfare and the environment, enabling you to provide healthy and safe working conditions for everyone on site.

The refresher course is for delegates who have previously passed the full SMSTS course or subsequent refresher course and can provide proof of attendance. It aims to bring health and safety knowledge up to date, as well as giving a thorough overview of the legislative changes and their impact in the workplace. The course includes a wide range of topics many building on the previous five-day course programme as well as introducing new subjects.


The aims and objectives of the SMSTS Refresher are to:


      •  Improve awareness of recent developments in construction, legislation and health, safety, welfare and environmental issues

      •  Identify measures that will assist the practical implementation of responsibilities established by new legislation, and new working practices

      •  Be aware of and have the ability to implement all updated health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them in their role as a manager

      •  Be aware of and have the ability to implement new guidance and industry best practice

      •  Be aware of key duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment


Entry Requirements


The refresher course is only for delegates who have previously passed the five day Construction Site Management Training Scheme (SMSTS) or subsequent refresher course and hold a valid SMSTS certificate and have provided evidence to the training provider of their eligibility.


Important SMSTS Refresher changes

Candidates must take an SMSTS Refresher course before their existing certificate expires, otherwise the full SMSTS course will have to be taken again. The six month grace period that used to be in place will cease to exist from 1 January 2016.

The refresher course will run for 2 day and the method of assessment will be multiple-choice questions at the end of the course.

      •  Examination
